NEWS & EVENTS
This year's Lessons and Carols Service, which will be held on December 21st at 11:00 am, will reflect Savannah's musical heritage in honor of our church's 225th anniversary. The Adult Choir will offer arrangements of beloved hymns with Savannah connections, including "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" and "Joy to the World." They will also sing settings of carols from cultures that influenced our area such as "Mary Had a Baby" (African American Spiritual), "Suo Gan" (British Lullaby) and "Morning Star" (Moravian Carol). The service will also showcase early American music that would have been composed around the time of our church's founding like "A Virgin Unspotted" (Early Shape Note Hymn) and "Followers of the Lamb" (Early Shaker Hymn). A highlight of the service will be the premier of a newly-composed piece by Justin Addington with lyrics by Wayne Drysdale entitled, “Home Is Where God Is Found," in honor of our 2025 Advent theme. We hope you will make plans to attend this meaningful Advent worship opportunity.
For those experiencing grief or sadness during the holiday season, the ministers of First Baptist Church will offer a Service of Loss and Healing on December 21st at 5:30 pm in the chapel. Attendees are invited to bring a photo or memento of a loved one to place on the altar table as part of this gentle and reflective service.
First Baptist Church will celebrate Christmas Eve with a candlelight service on Wednesday, December 24th. A musical prelude will begin at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary, followed by the Christmas Eve Worship Service at 7:00 pm. All are invited to join in this joyful and reverent celebration of Christ’s birth, marked by beautiful music, sacred readings, the ordinance of communion, and the warm glow of candlelight. The service will feature music by a string quartet, and will conclude with the traditional singing of carols on the front steps.
