For over 40 years, Mark and Marilyn Borst have travelled the world to stand with the church in difficult places, and to explore the historical and geographical backdrop to the biblical narrative. They have followed in the footsteps of Paul in Rome, Turkey, and Greece, and reenacted The Exodus traveling from Egypt to Palestine. Marilyn has participated in archeological digs in Jordan and Egypt, and developed church partnerships throughout the Middle East, and in Cuba. In conjunction with World Communion Sunday, October 5th, the Borst’s collection of global textiles will be on display in the gallery. A brochure explaining the context and origin of each piece will be available in the gallery.

First Baptist Church’s regular quarterly business conference will take place on Sunday, October 19th, immediately following morning worship. All members are encouraged to attend and participate in this important time of fellowship and decision-making in the life of the church. A catered luncheon will be served in Lewis Hall, with the business meeting to follow. Among the key items on the agenda include the election of deacons and committee members and approval of the 2026 budget. The luncheon menu will feature roast pork, roast chicken, curry fish, sweet plantains, and rice and peas. A donation of $15 is greatly appreciated.

First Baptist Church will host a table at the Savannah Pride Festival on Saturday, October 25th, beginning at 12:00 noon. This is a wonderful opportunity to represent FBC and extend a message of welcome to our community. The Savannah Pride Center works to ensure safety, empowerment, education, and wellbeing for Greater Savannah’s LGBTQIA+ community. First Baptist Church will join with congregations across Savannah for Congregations in Service on October 25th and 26th. This interfaith weekend of service includes community projects such as making blankets, baking for shelters, gardening, and more. Gather Saturday at First Presbyterian Church at 8:00 am and Sunday at the Baha’i Unity Center at 12:30 pm. All are welcome to participate. On Sunday, October 26th, immediately following the worship service, the congregation is invited to a special luncheon and discussion centered on the complex history of Kosovo and Serbia. This session will be moderated by Kyle Reese and a presentation will be given by Cathy Girardeau, who will draw from her personal experiences in the region to offer a heartfelt account of both its beauty and the devastating impact of its turbulent past. To accompany this meaningful conversation, a lunch will be served, featuring stuffed chicken with dirty rice, fried fish, green beans, and creamy macaroni and cheese. A suggested donation of $15 is kindly appreciated.

The fourth century produced an extraordinary generation of Christian leaders and theologians, some later designated by the Church as “doctors.” Every Sunday in October FAITH inFORMATION will have a five-part series exploring the lives and legacies of two of these remarkable figures: Ambrose, Bishop of Milan, and Jerome, whose groundbreaking translation of Scripture became the standard for nearly a thousand years. Led by the Rev. Marilyn Borst and Rev. Amber Jones, this series invites participants to consider how the witness of these early leaders continues to shape the Church today. FAITH inFORMATION meets each Sunday at 9:15 am in Lewis Hall. All are welcome to join this community of adult learners as together they deepen their faith through history and reflection.

A six-week book study will begin on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, where participants will explore journalist Tim Alberta's book, The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory: American Evangelicals in an Age of Extremism. The study dates are September 17th, October 1st, 8th, 22nd, 29th, and November 5th. Together, they will investigate the evolving landscape of Christianity in America, focusing on faith, politics, and government during these challenging times.
