Dr. Kyle Reese will lead a two-part Bible study series titled “On Being Christian in Today’s World. ” Each session will be offered twice—once in the morning at the church and once in the afternoon at his home in Savannah. The second session, “Sent into the World, ” based on John 17:14– 18, will take place on Tuesday, November 18th at 9:00 am. in Lewis Hall, and again on Tuesday, November 25th at 1:00 pm at the home of Kyle Reese. All are invited to attend and reflect together on what it means to live faithfully in the world today.
In celebration of First Baptist Church’s 225th anniversary, the Music and Arts Committee will curate a special historical photo display in the downstairs reception area. This exhibit will feature enlarged photographs carefully selected from the church archives, highlighting moments and people from our rich history—many of which have rarely been seen by our members. The gallery will be installed at the beginning of the month and will remain on view until the start of Advent. Those with questions are invited to contact Justin Addington for more information.
Are there conversations you avoid because you know they may lead to disagreement? Do you sense that unspoken words sometimes create distance between you and others? The Classics will gather at 11:00 am on November 5th in Lewis Hall for a presentation by Ernie Lee titled "Speaking the Truth with Love: How to Have Difficult Conversations." A delicious lunch will be served, and a $15 donation is appreciated.
We launched our 2026 Stewardship Campaign on Sunday, October 26th, with a portrayal of Rev. Sylvanus Landrum, Civil War–era pastor of First Baptist Church. On November 2nd, in partnership with the Savannah Stage Company, we will hear from Rev. Thomas Austin, Mary Louise Claiborne, and Rose Usher, who championed the inclusion of women in the decision-making life of the church, helping move our congregation forward with courage against the fierce resistance of maintaining the status quo. On November 9th, Savannah Stage Company will share the voice of Rev. Forest Lanier, who led our congregation through the era of Civil Rights and integration. His message reminds us that moral courage, love, and humor are essential when standing for what is right in times of cataclysmic change. Finally, on November 16th, we will hear from Rev. Henry Holcombe, who guided First Baptist after the Revolutionary War and whose vision of ecumenism, mercy, and progress continues to shape our ministry today. If you would like to make a pledge, pledge cards have been mailed to you, they are available in the Narthex, or you may submit your pledge online.
The Facilities Task Force will share its findings and recommendations on the church’s buildings during the Lunch and Learn on Sunday, November 9th. This presentation will include an overview of the historic sanctuary and discussion about the future of the Education Building. Please note that this will be an informational session only, not a voting meeting. The insights shared will help guide thoughtful discussion ahead of the January Quarterly Conference. This is an important gathering for all members, and everyone is encouraged to attend. Lunch will be served, and a $15 donation is appreciated.
