FBC Recognized by Juvenile Court

Chatham County Juvenile Court Judge Patricia Stone presented an Award of Excellence to First Baptist Church, recognizing our members' contributions to the Celebrating & Strengthening Families program.

The program helps parents overcome substance abuse, create more stable lives and learn parenting skills. Children and adolescents participate in sessions helping them to deal with their anger or frustration caused by their parents' addictions.

Parents who have lost or are in danger of losing custody of children because of the parents' addiction have the option of enrolling in this rigorous program of the Family Dependency Treatment Court. If they successfully complete the program, they may be able to regain or maintain custody of their children. The Chatham County Juvenile Court has received national recognition for the success of these programs.

Since the program's inception in 2008, First Baptist has donated use of its building for weekly gatherings of the parents and children enrolled in the program. Church members have also provided more than 96 meals for the families, who enjoy a family dinner together before breaking into age-specific groups to complete the program's curriculum.

Judge Patricia Stone presents an Award of Excellence to First Baptist Church for its contribution to the Celebrating Families and Strengthening Families program. Church members Bridget Browne and Ashley Williams accepted the award on behalf of the congregation.
