MUSIC DRAMA

Our children and youth are continuing their
work on “Elijah – God’s Faithful Prophet” which they
will present on the Sunday after Easter. They, along
with a number of adults, are constructing simple props
and scenery, and putting together costumes. Part of
the reason we do a music drama with
our youth every few years is so they
can see how much work must go on
behind the scenes. Some of them
who might never perform in a
musical production after this one,
may develop an interest in building,
designing, painting, sewing, etc., that they may pursue
later in life.
But of course our main reasons for
undertaking this sort of challenge are two. We
wouldn’t be doing this particular music drama if it
were not good music, well written for young voices.
Our children are taught how to use their voices
correctly, whether they are singing music that is
serious or music that is comical (and there is some of
both in this production!). The other reason “Elijah –
God’s Faithful Prophet” was chosen was for its value
in teaching an important Bible story to the young
people. Each week since we began to learn it, we
have read a portion of I Kings 17-18 and discussed
what it meant in Elijah’s time and what it can mean
for us today. I would encourage you to do the same
in preparation for hearing it on March 30!
