FIRST BAPTIST YOUTH FAMINE
Each day of the year 29,000 people die either from lack of food or from illnesses related to hunger. During the next couple weeks the young people of our church, will be preparing themselves for a day of fasting, which brings to life the need to address the crisis of world hunger. Beginning March 24 at 9:00 a.m. and concluding at 6:00 p.m., they will gather in our educational building for their famine.
At 4:00 p.m. a Christian Rock group will play in Lewis Hall (all members are invited; there will also be a Candlelight Vigil at 5:15 in Lewis Hall. With a few other surprises. There will be a mission project, but the main goal is for the youth to experience a day of fasting.
For the mission project they will be collecting prewashed standard sized pillow cases for a local crisis center, sign up sheets are available in the church office. Also during the coming weeks you may be asked to contribute toward their goal of providing one child from Uganda with food for one year. Believe it or not, a child can be fed for only $360! Wouldn't it be wonderful to raise even more! You will hear more about ways to contribute toward this very important project and you will see other signs for for our First Baptist Youth Famine.
We would like to ask any of the adults in our congregation to join in your own period of prayer and fasting in your own homes while the young people are going through their own famine. For more information please contact either Janis Lewis or Sheila Johnson.
