ADVENT BOOKLETS

The 2007 edition of the Advent devotional
booklet is ready for you to pick up this Sunday
following worship, or in the church office during the
week. If you need to have your copy delivered to
you, contact the office and a member of the Music
and Arts Committee will be happy to bring it to you.
If you are out of town but would like a copy, simply
let us know and we will mail it to you.
The Music and Arts Committee selected
“Congregation Arise” as the theme for this year’s
Advent devotional booklet. Persons who have
attended Christmas Eve services at First Baptist
Church any year since 1980 will recognize this theme
as the title of the song with which those services have
concluded. Some of this year’s writers have reflected
on certain lines from that anthem; others have recalled
times when First Baptist Church “rose to the
occasion.” It is our hope that this booklet will
encourage you to arise, go forth, and proclaim the
Good News this Advent season.
One of the unique things about this year’s
booklet is that Mark Murphy’s contribution, a moving
story as always, is divided into five chapters, to be
read on five separate days. This will really challenge
the discipline required to read only one devotional a
day, but it could be done – giving you several days to
reflect upon where the story might be going. But you
will not be criticized if the temptation proves too
great!
