First Baptist Church Choirs
These choirs help to form the heart of our music ministry here at First Baptist Church, Savannah. We have a rich history of music, a strong and vibrant ministry today, and look forward to a future filled with singing, ringing, and playing.
Being involved in a choir is an excellent way to use and share your musical gifts, to connect with others in the church, and to serve as a leader in worship. We are always interested in new members joining our choirs. Please use this page to explore the musical groups we have at FBC, learn more about each group, and consider joining us!
The Adult Choir is open to adult singers and high school students who have completed their sophomore year. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 in room 300 of the Education Building and sings each week for worship from September through May. We sing a wide variety of music, from choral masterworks of the Baroque and Classical eras to music written by living composers, from anthems from the English choral tradition to German chorales, hymn arrangements, early American music, and spirituals.
Any members and friends of First Baptist who enjoy singing are welcomed and encouraged to sing with the Adult Choir. There are no auditions for the choir, but potential members should:
Be able to match pitch
Be committed to regular and frequent attendance at rehearsals and worship
Have a positive attitude
Be willing to follow Kyle's leadership in constantly striving to create the best choral sound
If you are interested in learning more about the Adult Choir or would like to join us please contact Kyle Ballantine, Organist and Choir Director, or any member of the Adult Choir.
First Baptist Church has a 4 1/2 octave Bell Choir. The group rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 7:00 in room 305 of the Education Building and plays for worship approximately once a month, beginning in September and continuing through Palm Sunday. The music the Bell Choir plays includes settings of hymns, arrangements of formal-traditional music, and original compositions for bell choirs.
While previous experience ringing bells is not a prerequisite to be a part of this group, the ability to read music is important. This is a wonderful way to make music alongside other people; if you enjoy playing music but have never played bells, it may be something you would like to explore. If you are interested in being in the Bell Choir or learning more about what we do please contact Kyle Ballantine, Organist and Choir Director, or any member of the Bell Choir.
Joyful Voices Choir
The Joyful Voices Choir is for children from preK through fifth grade. This group meets on Wednesday evenings from 5:45 to 6:15. There are three areas of focus with this choir:
1) Learning music to sing for church, approximately once a month
2) Engaging in general musical activities, including playing instruments, reading and notating music, singing fun songs, and incorporating movement in music
3) Providing age appropriate social interactions
If you have a child who is eligible to join the Joyful Voices Choir please contact Kyle Ballantine, Organist and Choir Director, for more information.
