My Childhood and Church

Among the piled memories of my childhood, the most vivid ones are attached to the Christmas season and my childhood church.  I still hear the sound coming from the bell tower where I often played alone, hanging upside down, watching panoramic landscapes.  The bell sound seemed to echo particularly well that way.

The path between my home and the church was kind of a race track to me.  While running I often hummed the songs learned from church. I was really the champion runner of the track that started from the church on the hilltop and ended at my home. You can imagine how gravity amplified my speed.  I felt like flying all the way.

The Christmas season started from the very beginning of December for many young children like me, living close to the church.  All the way until Christmas Day we practiced and rehearsed our Christmas pageants which were usually nativity stories.  Those rehearsals often went past midnight.  The story development was simple but the process was always full of fun and also full of tender and sweet memories with my childhood friends.

I always remember my childhood Christmas with white snow and a crystal-clear, blue sky.  The sky was huge and the snow was chilling to the bone, but the air was so clear and pure that I often looked at it as a big, clear window where my dreams grew up.  Since then, the Christian love that I learned from my old church overlaps with that crispy, clean sky.

There's one more thing.  The texture of shiny Christmas candies and the color of crayons received from my church as baby Jesus' birthday presents remain forever in me.  Maybe that is the reason why I became an artist.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, we thank you that the baby Jesus is the Savior of our souls.  Everywhere around God is with us.  His peace will last forever.  Thank you for everything you have done for us and this world.  Amen.
