Advent 2010

"God as a child" - I have spent some time thinking about what that means.  I have tried to think literally about how I see God as childlike or how I see God in children.  When children are very young they have a strong faith in adults.  A child knows that he or she is going to be taken care of and protected.  God has a faith in all of us that we are going to do the right thing, and even after we have proven over and over again that maybe that is not always the case, he still is willing to accept us as we are, warts and all.

It occurs to me that God is like a child in the fact that he accepts us for who we are.  He knows all of our faults and still loves us.   Unconditional love is a great gift to be given and God gives it to us.  Even when we have doubts, God accepts that we will ultimately come to the realization that he loves us no matter what.

Another way that God is like a child is that he has faith in us as humans.  God believes that we are all worth saving.  He knows that we are going to make mistakes, but as long as we admit those mistakes and ask forgiveness, he lovingly and gladly gives us unconditional love and acceptance.

I believe that, like a child, God is honest, sincere, trusting, and loving. We can take him at his word and every time he looks at us he views us with eyes of wonder, because we are his children.

 Prayer:

Father God, help everyone to like you. Help people and animals who need your joy to get it, and help people who are sad.  Thank you for the people around us and our surroundings.  Amen.
